Self Assessment

This section will focus on creating a worksheet that examines one's self and gifts, graces, strengths and weaknesses for evangelism. This worksheet will include some sort of look into social location, gifts, and inclinations. Or, perhaps it could be something other than a worksheet. That seems very Gutenburg, to keep with the metaphors used in this course. Either way, let's go with the notion of a worksheet, realizing the potential for another form of "worksheet" or other method of self-examination.
Encourage active, group participation in this portion of the Evangelist's Self-Evaluation Tool. Have folks analyze their social location, gifts and inclinations in a fresh, postmodern, google-era way.

Questions to begin the interactive self-examination:

  • Why do I, the evangelist, follow Jesus? Why should others? What about evangelism is important to me? What does my faith offer that I would want  others to experience?
  • What does Jesus offer that I should bother with awakening others to the Christ who is already there?
  • What gifts and graces do I have that I can use in evangelization?
  • What do I perceive as my strengths and weaknesses? How can I use both in the effort to evangelize? Do I realize the importance of weaknesses (2. Corinthians 12:9)?
  • What sort of inward spiritual discipline am I grounding my outward spiritual practice of evangelism in? Prayer? Contemplation? Fellowship? etc...

Reading Reference: "With every person you touch, you hold a life in your hands." - Len Sweet, Nudge. This is rich with image and metaphor.

Biblical Reference (?) "Follow me and I will make you fish for people" (Mark 1:17). Jesus goes to where the people are, uses their language, and the result is their immediate adherence to Jesus. This verse can be the model and the way the self-reflection worksheet and exploration into the why of evangelism is based.

So, let's talk about images and metaphors.
